Lola, The 3D Model

The plan was to peak under Lola’s skirts last weekend and begin the reconstruction process; however, mother nature had other ideas – steady rain.  We need the precipitation here in Nor Cal, so no complaints.  To make good use of the time, I created a 3D model of Lola using SolidWorks.  This helped provide insight into Lola’s canned ham construction methodology.  From reading web posts and videos, the general construction process seemed fairly straightforward, but there were a few nagging details that I could not quite visualize.  Creating the model provided insight into the details.  The model may not be 100%, but is a good starting point.  I’ll add details and make corrections as the reconstruction proceeds.

Lola’s 3D model started with generating a sketch using a picture of Lola’s very sexy curbside profile.  Lola’s 15 foot length allowed for reference to scale the sketch.  While I have not been able to view and measure Lola directly, there are many pictures available from Mobiltec, Teachndad, and a few others (Thanks! Guys) for reference.  Using the web material and judgment, a pretty good representation could be created.  More on the 3D modeling to come…

Below is a sequence of illustrations showing the 1953 Westerner construction process.  With time I’ll create the interior and and exterior furnishings.

Note:  The images may be seen as a slideshow by opening one of the thumbnails..

Enjoy!
